Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008R2:SQL Alias-User friendly names for connecting SQL Server

Follow this steps to create sql alias.

1.Just Go to -->Programs-->SQL Server 2005/2008R2-->Configuration Tools-->SQL Server Configuration Manager-->

 

Click on SQL Native Client 10.0 Configuration.


 

 
 Click on Aliases

Right click -->New Alias.

 

Fill Information about SQL Connection.

Alias Name:Server1

Port No: 1433

Protocol :TCP/IP

Server:(Instance Name)192.168.0.16\SQL2005


Click Ok.


Alias created.

Use Alias name instead of Original Connection Settings.

SMS Alert logs ORA- errors This is something new in database administration part.Suppose DBA was out of office and got call from company manager to come to office.There is some problem in database.Generally DBA connect database and check connection possible or not then check any alert log entry.It is better if DBA and their company people got messages whenever any ORA- errors came in certain period of time.
